Wet Woods LIFE
Project The Wet Woods LIFE Project is a partnership of Scottish Natural Heritage, Forest Enterprise, the Forestry Commission, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and Highland Birchwoods which recieved funding from the European Union's LIFE Nature Programme to undertake a series of conservation initiatives on two priority habitats known collectively as 'wet woods'. The broad aim of the project is to restore and enhance some of the most important areas of bog woodland and floodplain woodland in the United Kingdom located on or adjacent to areas designated as candidate Special Areas of Conservation (cSAC) under the EU Habitats Directive. The work will focus on five areas of damaged or threatened habitat associated with four of the ten candidate SACs listed for these habitats in the UK : Monadh Mor on the Black Isle Pitmaduthy in Easter Ross The Conon Islands on the river Conon Abernethy in Strathspey Inshriach at the foot of the Cairngorms |
