FACTS AND FIGURES

Introduction

This part of the site contains the results (statistics) of the Level 2 and Level 3 surveys.The sample sizes achieved during the survey are:

Sample Size By Area (Ha) By Number
Level 2 of Level 1 21% 5 % of Woodlands
Level 3 of Level 2 31% 30 % of Compartments
(Compartment = Area with specific dominant tree species e.g. Oak / Ash)

For ease of presentation the results have been split into two sections:

Woodland Facts
The statistical results, charts and graphs that relate directly to the individual tables used on Woodland Survey Cards I & II, on the Natural Heritage Attributes of the 216 Semi-Natural woodlands surveyed in Level 2.
N.B. Does not include Woodland Survey Card II timber potential results.

Timber Facts
The tables and graphs showing the results of:

i) the visual estimate of timber potential from the Level 2 survey,
ii) the Level 3 survey which used a statistical methodology (Abbreviated Tariff) recognised within the timber industry for its accuracy,
iii) and estimated total resource of the six main timber tree species in Argyll by Area (Hectares) and Volume (Cubic metres)
