The Argyll Pilot Project aimed to:

  • Provide new information on the Argyll Semi-Natural Woodland resource suitable for management planning at local and regional levels.

  • Trial the Second Level (ground level survey of woodland characteristics) and Third Level (detailed ground level survey of the timber content of the Semi-Natural woodlands) Survey methodologies developed by the Caledonian Partnership.

  • Use the results from each level to validate and enhance the previous level. e.g. Level Two confirming that the Level One remote surveying (use of aerial photos) is over 96% accurate.
